How To Live An Exceptional Life

Over the past couple of days I have been listening to a Jim Rohn audio program that is making a major impact in my life and thought I’d share what I’ve learned so far. In the program, Jim Rohn talks a lot about philosophy and how it is what determines whether or not you will be successful in life. Your philosophy is basically the main determining factor in how your life turns out. Everyone’s philosophy is like the set of the sail and guides you in a certain direction based on predetermined principles.

If things aren’t going right in your life, don’t look around and find people or things to blame. Take a look at your philosophy. You can order your life by the way you think. The difference between those who succeed and those who fail is that the failures make a few errors in judgment and repeat these every day, however, the successful people practice a few simple disciplines every day. Successful people make good choices, while unsuccessful people make the wrong choices.

To change your philosophy, you need to find out what others before you had encountered and what they did to overcome their obstacles. You can do this through reading books, attending seminars or deriving ideas from people who have the level of success you intend to achieve. If you wish to be successful, study success. The major keys to achieving success and living an exceptional reside in the gathering and use of information. If you seek, you will find. Engage in conversations with people of substance. Whenever you find a good idea, capture it and write it down in your journal. It will serve you later. Now, you may not be able to do all that you find out but make sure you find out all you can do.

In an attempt to live an exceptional life, strive to gather information from these 2 sources:

  1. Your Experiences: By this, I mean both negative and positive experiences. This is important because everyone learns from their failures. You learn how to do something right by first of all doing it wrong a couple of times.
  2. Other People’s Experiences: Make it a point to spend at least 30 minutes each day listening to or reading something that instructs and teaches you on the things you aspire to learn. Spend your money on CDs and tapes, as well as seminars and things like that. Remember that the best money you can spend is money invested in your self education. You need access to a good library.

To live an exceptional life, read biographies and auto-biographies of successful people. This exposes you to both warnings, as well as examples. It lets you know what to do and what not to do. Don’t be lazy in learning. Get all the learning you can get and like I mentioned earlier, always keep a journal. Don’t trust your memory.

There are some treasures you’ve got to leave behind when you eventually pass away. Make sure that they are valuable. Things like your pictures, your books and your journal must be there to inspire and motivate others, as well as give value.

A key to living an exceptional life is to realize that it’s not what happens to you that determines your future, but it’s all about how you respond to what happens to you. Make a plan to change the way you think. As we approach the end of 2013, if your life is not where you would like it to be, start today to do something different the next 90 days than you did the last 90 days. Don’t expect a different result by continuing to do what you have always done. That’s insanity!

Remember: Everything you have at the moment have been attracted to you by the person you have become. To have more, you have to become more. If you will change, everything will change for you.
