The Story Of The Eagle & The Slug In Network Marketing

I recently listened to an audio CD that was made by Mr. Dave Ulloa, who is one of the top income earners in the network marketing industry. He shared some concepts that resonated with me. I’d like to share those with you in this post. These concepts can be applied within the networking industry and outside of the industry.

Most network marketing companies have put together systems that give every single human being the opportunity to get to the top. When you get started in a network marketing business, you get put into the system and you’re given a rep ID. This rep ID doesn’t know you from Adam.

It doesn’t know the color of your skin, your background, age, experience, education level, height, weight or anything like that. Have you ever wondered why two people with the same tools produce different results? The difference is in their daily habits and disciplines.

We’re all given 24 hours everyday. That’s 1440 minutes per day. You can choose to use your time, waste your time, spend your time or invest your time into something that’s meaningful.

What do you do with your 24 hours? Let’s say that everyday when you wake up, you take 10 dimes and put them in your left pocket. Now everytime you invite someone new to take a look at your business opportunity, you would take 1 of those dimes and move it to your right pocket. It only takes a few minutes to invite 10 people to take a look at your business opportunity.

If you did that everyday for 30 days, you would have invited 300 new people to take a look at your business opportunity. If you invite that many people, you would sign up at least 60 – 80 of those people.

The big question is: Why don’t we do that?

Here’s a fact of life. You get rich making things happen. You either create results or you make excuses. You can’t have both.

What are you doing with the 24 hours or 1440 minutes given to you everyday? One day you’re going to sponsor a heavy hitter into your business but it all starts with what you do on a daily basis to build your business and put your opportunity in front of new people. Many of us in network marketing come into it from various backgrounds. The thing that makes some people successful and others not too successful is the size of one’s dream. The odds are stacked against you but if you take action, you alter those odds immediately in your favor.

You’ve got to instill in yourself the spirit of hard work because if you work hard enough, you’ll get everything that your heart desires.

Real committed network marketers are out there on the streets and focused mentally, physically and emotionally. Yes you’ll find some “slugs” who get into business. These are people who do nothing. You never hear from them after they sign up. They talk the talk but don’t walk the walk. They want everything but don’t do anything. They move very slowly.

Real committed network marketers are like eagles. They move very fast and take care of business. They are hard chargers. There are some days that they are so focused on building their business that they forget to even eat lunch. They talk to as many people as possible.

Let me ask you a question: Did you get into network marketing to make a difference and help people or did you get in because you wanted a pay check? Here’s the thing..when you get started in your business, you don’t have someone watching over your shoulders to see what you’re doing on a daily basis to build your business.

What does an eagle represent?

The eagle is a symbol for freedom. You’re in this business to bring freedom to others out there who are hurting financially, physically, emotionally and otherwise. What do you do on a daily basis when nobody is watching? Are you making the calls? Are you showing the plan? Are you talking to people? or Are you a slug wondering why you haven’t reached the top of your company yet?

Make sure that you’re doing things on a daily basis to build your business. Discipline yourself daily to do the little things that make all the difference. You’ve got to make a decision that you’re going to make it happen. Realize that this may be your one shot at achieving financial freedom.

One of the rewards of building a successful network marketing business is that you get to create amazing friendships all around the country and even around the world.

Here are the differences between an eagle and a slug in network marketing:

  • The slug is focused on a bunch of activity (filing paperwork, for example) while the eagle is focused on productivity (like developing the skill set of inviting others to come and see the plan)
  • The slug focuses on the price they have to pay to win while the eagle is focused on the prize.
  • The slug is focused on the 3-month plan(they quit if they don’t get rich in 3 months) while the eagle is focused on the “never-quit- plan”.
  • The slug is focused on a ton of excuses while the eagle is focused on inviting people to multiple events per week (either offline or online).
  • The slug is focused on being the boss (the boss mindset) while the eagle is focused on being a coach through inspiring people to be more than they think they can be.
  • The slug is focused on watching the television while the eagle is focused on personal development (surrounding themselves with the right people, reading the right books, listening to the right CDs, going to trainings that help them work on their mind).
  • The slug is focused on why nobody on in their team is doing anything while the eagle is focused on creating momentum for their team.
  • The eagle knows why they are doing the business while the slug walks around asleep with no target or aim.

Know that you are called to help those people who are stuck in a self-imposed prison. It is your place to help them become free.

What are you doing with your life? Does your life have purpose? Are you making a difference in this world?

Make a decision today. You can change your entire life going forward by the decisions you will make today. Make quality decisions and you will be glad you did.
