Happy 4th of July to my friends here in the US. For my friends in other parts of the world, I hope you’re having a wonderful day. I was inspired to write this post considering the fact that today is Independence Day here in the US. I was also inspired to write this after reading a blog post by one of my mentors, Ray Higdon. Ray’s post was titled “Quiz: How are you creating your independence?” In the post, Ray asked 5 questions that would help anyone determine if they are on the path to financial independence. The questions are:
1) Do you have a plan of action in place that is allowing you to create residual income?
2) Are you currently free to go as you please without asking for permission from anyone? (save your spouse)
3) Do you have enough passive income coming in now to cover your bills and expenses? If no, will you within the next 1-3 years?
4) Are you traveling as much as you would like to? If no, do you have a plan to be doing so within the next 1-3 years?
5) Are you stress-free when it comes to the inevitable future expenses for your family?
How you answer these questions will determine how close you are to achieving financial independence.
How Do You Define Financial Independence?
Wikipedia describes financial independence as the state of having sufficient personal wealth to live indefinitely without having to work actively for basic necessities. In his post, Ray defines it as a state of self-reliance and the ability to choose who you work with who you spend time with, where you travel to, how long you spend there and how exactly you want to live your life. I also believe that the only way to have financial independence is to create residual income in some form or fashion.
Is financial independence just for a select few or is it just a pipe dream? My answer is NO. It’s a goal that anyone can fulfill as long as she’s armed with some basic knowledge, as long as she makes smart choices. Everyone should be able to create their own independence. The interesting thing is that some people don’t even know that they have the ability to create financial independence. Some are waiting for someone to come and show them how to do it.
There has never been a perfect time for the business of network marketing. Network marketing is the business that can get you to financial independence and residual income. It’s a business where average ordinary people get involved and make extraordinary income. Don’t get me wrong, it involves work that’s why it’s calling Net-WORK marketing and not Net-lottery. If you’re willing to put in some work and stay coachable, you too can achieve financial independence for yourself and your family and live the lifestyle that most people only dream of.
It’s never too late to start the journey towards your independence. Start now and you’ll be surprised where you’ll be a year, 2 years, 3 years from now and you’ll be glad that you did.

In many respects freedom must be defined in financial terms. We must create financial independence to live out our dreams.
