Tips That Will Help Get Targeted Traffic To Your Blog

When it comes to creating and building a business online, one factor dictates your success over all other factors…

Traffic.

Put simply, traffic is just another name for visitors to your website or blog. If you have traffic, you can start to convert some of those people into regular readers and then some of those regulars into customers.

Getting lots of traffic is great, and if you were able to drive tens of thousands of visitors to your site each month, it would be hard to see how you couldn’t profit from those visitors. However, the key is to get targeted traffic or targeted visitors.

What do I mean by ‘targeted’? Well, quite simply it means visitors who are already interested in your subject matter and who are likely to want to find out more about it. Ideally, they will be specifically interested in one particular area of your subject matter which your niche blog or website will inform them about.

Many books and articles are constantly being written about generating traffic to a website or blog.  Much of the advice is superb and is very useful for traffic generation.  Most of them, however, are simply NOT for the “newbie” or someone just getting started in lead generation.

“Why?” you might ask.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO), viral software and other such mass-traffic techniques are somewhat specialized and are geared more toward the advanced user than the beginner.  In my opinion, they should be addressed and used when you have the basics in place.  Too many beginners get so caught up in the technical aspects of the website itself that they seem to never actually start.  Don’t do it.

The first step you can do to get traffic to your blog is by joining all the forums and social networks related to your niche. For example, if you have a blog that is related to network marketing, make sure that you join all the network marketing or home based business forums you can find on the web. Just go to Google and type “network marketing forums” and you are likely to find many of them. Check out their Alexa ranking to make sure these are forums with high traffic. Don’t waste your time on forums with little traffic.

Once you are on a forum, the first thing you need to do is find out how you can post your website or blog link. Usually you are allowed to post your blog link in your signature. Set up your signature file with your blog link.

Once this is completed, take an hour each day to post valuable comments in the forums. Eventually people will start considering you an expert in your niche and they will be keen to check out your site.

Also search out blogs in your niche that are ranked high by Alexa. What you want to do is every day, pay a visit to these blogs, read and comment on the blog posts. You’re usually given an option to leave your website. When you do this, you’ll get backlinks back to your website or blog. Here are a few words of caution. Make sure that you’re leaving quality content so the owner of the blog doesn’t think that you’re just commenting to get backlinks. If the owner feels that way, they are not likely to approve your comment and your effort will have been wasted. This is key.

Many blogs, forums, informational sites, sports sites, cooking sites etc. get thousands of visitors per day simply because they have content that their audience wishes to read about.  They are popular because of their content, not because they are able to trick the search engines into placing them near the top.

This is not any type of attack against SEO or other techniques; it is rather an admonition to get started on your marketing with the very basics of attracting targeted visitors to your site.  Later on, when the basics seem like old hat to you then SEO and other techniques will make much more sense and you will be able to integrate them intelligently into your lead generation system.

The basics remain the same:

  • Put up your website or blog
  • Write or purchase some informative articles to put on your blog
  • Publish articles on article directories
  • Participate in forums and blogs
  • Add more techniques as you are able

Don’t let the technical stuff keep you from promoting your website or blog.  Remember, there is no magic button for marketing.  Keep making progress one step at a time until you reach your goals.  Then, teach your team to do the same.
