The journey to a goal isn’t always a smooth path – especially when unexpected obstacles pop up along the way.
Obstacles are usually unexpected but they always give us the opportunity to find out how hard we’re willing to fight for our goals.
My absolute favorite part about the journey to achieving a goal is the unexpected obstacles that pop up along the way. The unexpected obstacles are opportunities in disguise because we get to find out what kind of a fight we’re willing to put up in order to achieve our goals.
Watching the star of the video above fight through excruciating pain to just to break the wood over his head is seriously entertaining. What makes the video even more entertaining is the fact he used plywood in the fight for his goal.
If you aren’t familiar with plywood – here’s a quick background: the layers of plywood are glued together so that adjacent plies have their wood grain going against each other for greater strength. There are an odd number of plies, as symmetry makes the board less prone to warping.
So plywood is actually manufactured as a more durable alternative to other types of wood, like soft pine, which is tremendously less painful to repeatedly smash over one’s head.
What I love about this guy is the fact that he just doesn’t quit until he reaches his goal of breaking the wood over his head. His unexpected obstacle was the plywood & he fought excruciating pain 20-30 times until the wood finally broke.
The next time you encounter unexpected obstacles (like the plywood) as you work toward a goal, use the obstacles as opportunities to help you discover how badly you want to achieve your goals. And don’t forget to believe in yourself & formulate a plan of action! :)
