[VIDEO] The Importance of Fathers
I was just reflecting today as we celebrate Father’s Day and decided to rewatch the movie, “Courageous,” to remind me of my commitment to my family and the role I play as a father in the lives of my kids. I didn’t know about this movie until a good friend of mine, Tony, gave it to me and my wife as a gift for our Anniversary last year. This movie made a great impact on me the first time I watched and has made an even greater impact on me today. It has brought me to the point of understanding that the destinies of countless generations are in my hand, based on how I bring up my kids and the principles and philosophies that I teach them.
I had a wonderful childhood and was blessed to be exposed to great philosophies by my dad, Professor E. J. Etuk. My dad raised us to be independent and to use our minds to the fullest possible extent. He continually taught us to act like we had some common sense. I remember him telling me on several occasions that: “Common sense is not common after all!” :-) :-)
I’m so thankful that God blessed me & my siblings with such a strong father, who has made a difference in not just our lives, but in the lives on countless people all over the world. He is one of the people who put the part of Nigeria that I am originally from on the map. He taught us the value of hard work. I remember many nights I would wake up to use the restroom and my dad would be up reading and writing his books. He was very accomplished at that time, and there was really no need for him to continue reading or writing, but he kept at it and still does it today. I have never seen someone in my life who loves to read like my dad.
One day, I asked him why he worked so hard and then he proceeded to tell me that he does it so he can make a difference in the world and so that others wouldn’t have to grow up under the same harsh conditions he faced growing up.
Today, I take a few moments to salute my father, who is an accomplished author and one of the wisest men I know. He is a genius in his own right.
Happy Father’s Day, Daddy. I love you very much!
